Photography: Blog http://lesleycphotography.zenfolio.com/blog 78 120 "New Year New Beginnings" http://lesleycphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/1/-new-year-new-beginings Well it's official, today is the first day of 2018. We have officially closed the door on another year, and we are excited to see where this year is going to take us! We made some changes, big changes, last year in the direction that my photography business, and where life in general is heading.

It all started with a dream (yes I am a dreamer). I have dreamed for a long time that I was going to get to travel and see the beauty God has blessed us with, and it may not be an extravagant life. Traveling around in a converted minivan with my husband and our dog. But, the views far outweight any inconvenience of the things left behind and the comforts of "home". So for us "home is where we park it"!!!

So as I say goodbye to 2017, I also say goodbye to limits and boundaries because I see nothing but wide-open spaces and endless possibilities for 2018! I hope you will follow along on our adventures as we travel around the country"boondocking on a budget" (a very small one at that) and in just a few days (January 7th) we will be heading west on our big adventure and we are excited to see the BEAUTIFUL country that awaits us and I cannot wait to capture those images and share them with you all!!!

We are going to try to stay in a little bit warmer climate during the winter months so will be staying in the southwest as we venture into the unknown. We have no real plan. Just kinda pointing the van in a general direction and seeing where God leads us. We have already seen some awesome sites and met some amazing people along the way.

So please keep us in your thoughts and prayers for safety while we are out on the open road. We are praying that this leg of our trip does not require any vehicle repairs as our 3 months in West Virginia was quite an adventure when it came to our van. We had to find/replace 4 tires, a battery and the thermostat. But on a good note "Lucy" is running great now and we have heat again!!!

I will leave you a few of my favorite images from 2017 and our 1st 3 months out on the road living the "VanLife".

So here is to happy trails, an adventurous spirit, dreaming big, and reaching for the Stars in 2018!!! ;)

Our Camp Life http://lesleycphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/10/our-camp-life We made is safely to our 1st of many destinations. We are now here in West by God Virginia the "wild & wonderful" state! We are currently located near Sherwood Lake National Park inside the Monongahela National Forest.

There are roughly 15-20 "dispersed" sites available outside the National Park for FREE camping. Several of the sites sit along side the beautiful Meadow Creek, other sites are within walking distance to the creek and then there are sites nestled back in the woods with no access to running water. These sites are all primitive sites with no utilities.
At least three of the dispersed sites are set up to be used as group sites which can hold as many as 3-5 families and still have plenty of room and possibly more if you don't mind camping close to each other. Or you can spread out on the site and have it all to yourself.  The sites used to be marked with number post at the end of the road into the site, however most of those are now gone.
We are currently the only campers in the dispersed sites and it's a mile from our site to the next one so we have tons of privacy! However, once the weekend rolled around several campers took up residence in a few of the other free sites. This is officially "off" season so theirs no entry fee to the park right now & only one paid campground is open inside Sherwood National Park during off season. And it currently has a fee of $20 a night. The camping is right on the lake and the camp sites are very nice not to mention the amazing views & fishing too. Each site has a picnic table and lantern post. Most sites have a tent pad set up. ( out of state fishing license was $19 for the 1st day and $3 each additional day ).
This morning is our 11th morning waking up here in the free "dispersed" camp site. And I couldn't ask for a more beautiful location then right here, we are nestled back in the woods with our tent sitting right against the creek.
Hey did you here that, what was it.... oh listen closely, and you might here it to, the sound of a creek bubbling across the rocks, the breeze softly blowing through the forest trees & the sound of the leaves as they gently fall to the mossey ground, covering the forest floor with amazing fall colors. It truly doesn't get much better than this!
Some may think that this "lifestyle" is gross, icky or stinky but I love it!!! I think I was born in the wrong generation. I think i would have done very well back in the pioneer days. Washing and bathing in the creek, building fires to cook with as well as for warmth, hiking to find the next days fire wood, sitting around the fire at night and listening to the animals in the woods around me and trying to figure out what they are. This... yes this, is the life! No t.v., internet, or cell service. Just me, my hubby James, and our dog Roscoe enjoying the moment!!!
So here is my question for you today. Have you become so wrapped up in today's "now" generation that you can no longer see the beauty in every day life?
Have you stopped lately for more than 30 minutes to sit and just take in the world around you? You don't have to go deep into the woods like us.You just need to do it, just take 30 minutes wherever you are in life. Go sit under your favorite tree, find a pocket park in downtown amidst all the hussle and bustle of your city life, a local park down the street or around the corner, even your own backyard or heck your neighbors yard ( with permission of course ) but just find a spot and enjoy the moment!
So soak in that moment, because after all moments are all we have in this thing we call life, and before we know it all those moments are gone! All our children are grown up and moved out, our parents are fading away or they may already have passed on, friends have moved away or passed, our bodies have become old and weak and we look back at our life and realize we let moments slip past us. Moments we can NEVER get back no matter how hard we try.
"Moments are like creek water in our hands spilling through our fingers and, no matter how hard we try to hold on to it we can't."
So hold your loved ones close and tell them often how much you love them, cross off those things on that bucket list, and have no regrets!!! Live your life to its fullest, chase after those dreams & for goodness sakes laugh!!! Laugh more, cause after all, laughter is great medicine!!!
So I will end this blog on a silly note. So far I have had zero falls but hubby has had two in the creek. I have opened up the van door into myself thinking I was opening the sliding door but I had ahold of the drivers door hitting myself with the door in my chest. While gathering fire wood I yanked on a stick which came loose clubbing me in the head. I found a mouse nest in the food box and, upon removal found said mouse and began screaming for hubby to get it, all while he was laughing at me. Then later when i am walking around the cook tent I did the "OMG SNAKE DANCE" all while screaming snake snake snake, snake, snake & high stepping like a Clydesdale and hubby informs me "oh it's only a Gardner snake" to which I said "it's a SNAKE"!!!
I hope you got a giggle or two from our silly camp life adventures!

Did someone say "Bucket List"?!?! http://lesleycphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/8/bucket-list We all have had a list. You know the one, a "BUCKET LIST"!!! Things we have always wanted to do before we pass from this life. Well I to have one of those list's. There are so many things I want to cross off my list. Things like getting to put my feet in the Pacific Ocean, go back to London as an adult, experience Ireland ( trying to finding those adorable leprechaun from P.S. I Love You ), travel Route 66 from end to end, go to all the themed parks in the US, go on a mission trip, learn astrophotography, live on the road ( my friends call me "BOHO HIPPIE CHICK" ) while photographing this amazing country, see all the US state & national parks, and my list goes on and on!!!

Well, I said all that to tell everyone that I am following my heart and going to cross an item or two off my list!!! In September my husband and I are hitting the road and starting our "VANLIFE" removing all the seats from our minivan, adding some storage with a cover so we can use our mattress when we just want to crash for the night. ( or theres lots of bears in the area lol ) We will also have all our camping gear, we will be traveling around and staying on Bureau of Land Management Area's "B.L.M."  ( free public lands ) in dispersed camping sites. This will mostly be "Primitive" sites. So no running water, power or toilets. Just us, our little dog Roscoe, the land and probably a few other "vanlifers" along the way!! Can you just imagine all the AMAZING people we will meet on the road, people who we would have never met if we hadn't followed our dreams!!!

"They Call Me Sunshine""They Call Me Sunshine"Just a single pop of yellow to brighten your day!

I know to some, this "style" of living is not appealing at all, ( and they probably think we are crazy, but who cares ;) ) and then there are others that also dream of throwing cation to the wind and following their heart where ever it may lead. I have always wondered what was around that next turn, and now I will get the chance to see for myself!

Turkey SpurTurkey SpurA drive up Turkey Spur in Grandview Park

So now that I know we are going to make the leap, I am stuck trying to figure out what camera gear I "need" to take so that I can create images to sell on my website to help fund our journeys. Also, what clothing we will need to take so we are ready for anything. Figuring out our food and water. ( we already have our filtration system ) And eventually we will try to get some solar panels to be able to keep some power coming to charge devices and computers for social media while on the road.

There are still things I have not figured out yet, like medications especially for my hubby's diabetes. And getting back for doctor appointments every few months. So I am trusting that everything will fall into place for us. I am trusting that God will help direct our path and keep us safe!!!

How long will we be out on the road living a "VANLIFE"... Well I have no idea, but hopefully long enough to see EVERYTHING we have always dreamed of seeing!!!!

Foggy Grandview MorningFoggy Grandview MorningA beautiful early morning walk in Grandview park

Our first trip will be heading to West Virginia to see many of our family members ( been having "grand baby" withdraw ). I will be photographing my favorite little music festival "Culturefest" at the Appalachian South Folklife in Pipestem, W.V.  ( the magical mountaintop ) We will be spending a lot of time in the "free" sites just outside of Sherwood Lake. We have camped their several times in the past and it is one on the most beautiful primitive sites I have seen sitting right on the creek with fresh spring water.

I invite you to follow us in our journey

Capturing The Best Of You http://lesleycphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/2/capturing-the-best-of-you

I want you to take a moment to think for just a moment. As a women, a mother, an employee, a boss, or perhaps an owner of your own business. How long has it been since you had your portrait made? Weather it is your business head shot for your website, a fine art portrait or a pampering boudoir session for your upcoming wedding or anniversary. Life can get so crazy, so busy that we let things slip by including time and before we know it years have past us by. You deserve to be photographed and shown how beautiful you are. Let us create legacy images for you today that will be treasured for generations to come. ALL women should be able to feel what it is like to see the best version of themselves. Will you allow us to create images that show you the most beautiful version of YOU... Lesley C. Photography

Fall gives way to winter http://lesleycphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/11/fall-gives-way-to-winter Day's are getting shorter as fall gives way to winters grip.

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. The crispness in the air and all of the amazing fall foliage. We had our first ice storm the other night so I got up early in the morning to capture the beauty all around me. Here is just one of my favorite images from the morning after the storm.

Well it has been a long road for this West Virginia Photographer & Lesley C. Photography as a business but we are finally settling into our new home out west. After being in Hinton, West Virginia for 11 years my family & I made the move back out west to be near my family.

I am now starting the task of rebuilding a client base as a Noble, Oklahoma photographer and I am so very excited about this challenge! I am about 10 minutes from downtown Norman and 45 minutes drive from "Brick Town" in Oklahoma City And of course available to travel for that perfect "Destination Session"!!

During this "down time" I have attend P.P.O. School, as well as Oklahoma's State Convention and enter my 1st state competition too. I was able to meet so many amazing photographer and network with them & the awesome speakers as well!

I have been blessed to be able to find a studio space and with a little time & work will have it up and running soon. Meanwhile I am doing "On Location" sessions with my clients.

Lesley C. Photography has also been named the "Official" photographer for OK-NAM which can be found on Facebook. I will be going to Enid, O.K next month to photograph the dedication of the Vietnam Memorial service and the "fans" of Gloyd McCoy's book OK-NAM. I am also working with Gloyd on a project for his book "Tent Number Eight" about the "Girl Scout" murders at Camp Scott in the 70's. I am excited to get the chance to work with the Oklahoma author and look forward to seeing when this will lead.
